Solar ATAP vs NEM: What Changed for Malaysian Homeowners?

Solar ATAP is the current rooftop-solar framework introduced after Malaysia’s NEM programme ended in June 2025.

Solar ATAP and NEM Are Not the Same Application

NEM was the previous net-energy-metering programme. Solar ATAP continues the idea of using rooftop PV for self-consumption while providing a current framework for eligible surplus export and credits. The applicable details depend on the consumer category, capacity and connection conditions.

• Whether the proposed system is based on actual load and daytime usage

How to Compare Two Solar Quotations

Do not compare only the number of panels. Compare system size, inverter specification, roof structure, protection devices, workmanship, monitoring, documentation and after-sales support. Ask the installer to identify which current official rule supports the proposed application.

Can I still submit a new NEM application?

Will my old NEM quotation still be valid?
